About the author:
Lisa Marie Brown is a native of New Orleans. She lived in the Tremé and Gert Town neighborhoods before moving to Algiers at the age of eight. She is a tourism information counselor for the Louisiana State Museum and a licensed tour guide for the city. Brown earned a BA in elementary education from Xavier University of Louisiana before pursuing an MA in history from the University of New Orleans. She was an elementary-school teacher for several years and an archivist at the Historic New Orleans Collection. Brown’s love for her city is outmatched only by her knowledge of it.Sarah Cotton is a freelance illustrator and a former intern for Pelican Publishing Company. A graduate of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, she earned a BFA and MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Cotton has illustrated numerous publications, including a picture book with Pelican, "Jackson Sundown: Native American Bronco Buster". She lives in Gretna, Louisiana.
